The next national ACT test date is June 12, 2010. The registration deadline is May 7. Late registration is available May 8 – 21. Register online today at actstudent.org.
The South Central High School Awards Banquet will be on Monday, April 26. It is a covered dish meal and you are asked to bring a covered dish. The meal will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the program following immediately.
Wichita State University is announcing its 2011 scholarship competitions. The Distinguished Scholarship Invitational (DSI) is one of the area’s most prominent annual scholarship competitions. Over $500,000 in scholarships are awarded annually. Two winners will each be awarded a $48,000 Harry Gore Memorial Scholarship based on leadership and academic performance. In addition, the top 50 competitors will be awarded four-year scholarship packages. DSI participants who submit additional materials are eligible to compete for the Lenora McGregor Academic Scholarship, worth $26,000. To be considered for an invitation to the DSI competition, you must complete the following by October 1, 2010.
- Submit an official high school transcript with a minimum 3.50 GPA.
- Have a minimum ACT composite score of 24 or SAT composite score of 1090 on file with WSU.
- Be admitted to WSU.
If you meet the above selection requirements, you will receive an invitation with additional instructions.
Dodge City Community College will be hosting a Leadership Institute June 5 – 12 on the Dodge City Community College Campus. They will be offering academies in Business, Fire/Rescue and EMS Academy, Kansas Future Teacher, Future Nursing, Law Enforcement, Music and Performing Arts, and Write to Win Academy. The cost for meals, on-campus lodging, program materials and activities for your chosen academy is $150. Students participating in any of these nine academies receive three hours of transferable college credit. If you are interested, please see me for registration materials. You need to apply by May 1, 2010.
Seward County Community College/Area Technical School is offering a Health Careers Camp June 7 – 9, 2010 for students entering grades 9 – 12. The camp will be offered June 7 & 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on June 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00. A light lunch will be provided on June 7 & 8. Camp activities will conclude at noon on June 9. The cost is $30 and a letter of recommendation from the school counselor, teacher, or principal along with the camp registration form will need to be submitted. The students will participate in interactive hands-on activities that will include career areas in Medical Laboratory Technician, Surgical Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Medical Assistant, and Nursing.
